How to Choose a Personalised Map Print: Location, Size & Colour

, 2 min reading time

A practical guide to choosing a personalised map print, covering custom location, A5–A1 sizes, 18 colour styles and what the personalisation field includes.

A personalised map print is simple in principle: choose a place that matters and turn it into wall art. The useful decisions are which location, what size and which colour style.

This guide explains the choices available across our Personalised Map Prints without promising features that are not part of the product.

1. Choose the location

You can order the location shown on the product page or enter another location in the personalisation field.

Good choices usually have a clear personal reason behind them:

  • Hometown
  • Where you met
  • University city
  • First home
  • Wedding location
  • Honeymoon destination
  • Favourite holiday
  • Family roots
  • A place someone is moving to or leaving
  • A landmark or destination tied to a memorable trip

If you are buying as a gift, choose the place the recipient will understand immediately. Read our personalised map gift ideas if you need inspiration.

2. Choose the size

The range is available in five standard A-series sizes:

  • A5 — compact, useful for smaller walls, shelves and gallery arrangements
  • A4 — an easy everyday wall-print size
  • A3 — more visual presence without dominating a room
  • A2 — suited to a larger wall or stronger focal point
  • A1 — the largest option in the range for a statement display

Think about the actual wall rather than assuming bigger is always better. If you are unsure of the recipient's space, a mid-sized print is usually easier to place.

3. Choose one of 18 colour styles

The map products currently offer 18 colour treatments: Terracotta, Blueprint, Contrast, Copper, Patina, Coral, Emerald, Forest, Heatwave, Japanese Ink, Midnight Blue, Neon, Noir, Ocean, Pastel, Ruby, Rustic and Sage.

Choose based on the room. Blueprint or Midnight Blue can suit cooler interiors; Terracotta, Copper and Rustic bring warmer tones; Noir is useful when you want something more restrained. The important thing is that the map still feels like something the recipient would actually put on their wall.

4. Understand what the personalisation field does

The field is for the location of the map. It lets you request another place instead of the location shown in the listing.

Unless a specific product page says otherwise, do not assume the print includes custom dates, captions, pins, route lines or additional wording. We would rather be clear about what is offered than promise extras that are not part of the product.

5. Remember that it is decorative artwork

These are decorative map prints, not navigation maps. They are designed for walls and gifting rather than route planning or geographic measurement.

Popular ways people use personalised maps

Maps work for birthdays, housewarmings, weddings, anniversaries, graduation, moving away, travel memories and long-distance relationships because the location can carry the meaning.
