    Amsterdam's ring of canals was dug in the 17th century, during the Dutch Golden Age, and became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010. Much of the city stands on piles driven deep into the soft ground. There are thought to be more bicycles than residents. The Rijksmuseum displays Rembrandt's Night Watch, and the Van Gogh Museum holds the largest collection of the artist's work. The Anne Frank House preserves the hidden annexe where she wrote her diary. Houseboats line the water, and the city has over 1,500 bridges.
