    Sweet magnolia blossom meets roadside Americana on this Welcome to Mississippi sign. White lettering spells out "Welcome to Mississippi" and "The Magnolia State" on a green, highway-style metal panel framed by a slim white rule, with the wording fixed as shown.

    The magnolia is both the state tree and the state flower, hence the nickname. Mississippi is also where the Delta blues took shape and where Elvis Presley was born, in Tupelo in 1935, and the river that shares its name forms most of the western border. It suits a blues fan, someone with family in Jackson, the state capital, or a traveller who has wandered the Gulf Coast around Biloxi.
