    ABOUT THIS GIFT.

    One of the world's great Buddhist monuments sits at the centre of this Borobudur Temple map art print. It maps the area around the temple in Central Java as clean graphic art, an elegant memento of an Indonesian adventure.

    Borobudur was built in the 9th century under the Sailendra dynasty and is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Pilgrims climb its nine stacked platforms, passing thousands of carved relief panels and hundreds of Buddha statues, until they reach the top terraces, where 72 perforated stupas surround a great central stupa. Abandoned for centuries and partly hidden by volcanic ash and jungle, it was restored in the 20th century and listed by UNESCO in 1991. Sunrise over the surrounding volcanoes, including Merapi, is a famous sight, and the city of Yogyakarta is about an hour away.
