    To mark the centenary of its first appearance, the Tour de France held a summit finish on the Tourmalet in 2010, where Andy Schleck won the stage in thick mist. The eastern approach from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan passes through the ski station of La Mongie, while the Pic du Midi observatory looks down from the peak above.
