    Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island near Seattle, when three dads improvised a game for their bored children using table-tennis bats, a perforated ball and a badminton court. It combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and in recent years it has been named the fastest-growing sport in the United States. Clubs have since sprung up across the UK, Europe and Australia.
