    Seattle sits on Puget Sound in Washington State, with Mount Rainier rising on the horizon. The Space Needle was built for the 1962 World's Fair, and Pike Place Market, open since 1907, is famous for its fishmongers who throw salmon to each other. The first Starbucks opened near the market in 1971. Seattle was the birthplace of grunge, the sound of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and Jimi Hendrix grew up in the city.
