    Small state, big character: this Welcome to New Hampshire sign reads "Welcome to New Hampshire" with "The Granite State" underneath, in white type on a green road-style panel edged by a slim white border. The design comes with its wording fixed as shown.

    The nickname refers to the granite that runs through the state's hills and once filled its quarries. Concord is the capital, and the White Mountains hold Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast and famous for some of the harshest weather on record. New Hampshire traditionally holds the first presidential primary, and the Old Man of the Mountain rock face, which collapsed in 2003, still appears on its road signs.
