    Cheltenham became a fashionable spa town after mineral springs were found here in the 18th century, and King George III visited in 1788. Its Regency architecture lines the Promenade and the Montpellier district. The Pittville Pump Room, an elegant domed building in Pittville Park, was built for taking the waters. Every March the Cheltenham Festival at Prestbury Park draws huge crowds for the Gold Cup. The town also hosts celebrated literature, jazz and science festivals, and GCHQ's circular Doughnut building is on its western side. The composer Gustav Holst, best known for The Planets, was born in the town.
