    Coventry is famous for the legend of Lady Godiva, who is said to have ridden naked through the streets to persuade her husband to lower taxes. Much of the city centre was destroyed in the Blitz in November 1940. The ruins of the old cathedral were kept as a memorial beside the new Coventry Cathedral, designed by Basil Spence and consecrated in 1962. The city has a long history of making bicycles and cars, celebrated at the Coventry Transport Museum, and it was UK City of Culture in 2021.
