    Table tennis began in Victorian England as an after-dinner game played across the dining table, with books for a net. The name ping-pong was registered as a trademark by the London firm J. Jaques & Son in 1901. The sport joined the Olympic Games at Seoul in 1988, and since 2001 games have been played to 11 points. The ball is 40mm across, and China has dominated the sport for decades. In 1971 a visit by American players to China, known as ping-pong diplomacy, helped thaw relations between the two countries.

    Size options run from 20 × 10cm (small) to 45.7 × 15.2cm (XL), with 28.3 × 10cm and 40.5 × 14.1cm in the middle. Twelve colours give plenty of choice: black, blue, brown, green, orange, pink, purple, red, yellow, grey, light green and light blue.
