    Red carpets and movie magic inspire this Leicester Square sign. It makes a fun gift for film buffs, theatre fans and anyone who has spotted a star at a premiere.

    Leicester Square takes its name from Leicester House, built for the Earl of Leicester in the 1630s. Today it is the home of the London film premiere, with stars walking the red carpet outside its big cinemas. A statue of William Shakespeare stands at the centre of the gardens, and since 2020 bronze figures of famous film characters, including Paddington, Mary Poppins and Mr Bean, have been dotted around the square. A booth on the square sells same-day theatre tickets for West End shows, and Chinatown is just to the north. Piccadilly Circus and Covent Garden are both a few minutes' walk away.
