    Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe and spreads over hills above the River Tagus. Much of the Baixa district was rebuilt on a grid after the great earthquake of 1755. Yellow trams, including the famous number 28, rattle through the steep streets of Alfama, the city's oldest quarter and the heartland of fado music. In Belém, the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower are UNESCO World Heritage sites linked to the Age of Discoveries. The 25 de Abril Bridge spans the Tagus, and pastel de nata custard tarts are found everywhere.
