    Los Angeles was founded by Spanish settlers in 1781 with a much longer name, El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles. It is the centre of America's film and television industry, and Griffith Observatory gives sweeping views over the city. Los Angeles hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984 and is set to host them again in 2028. Santa Monica Pier marks the western end of the famous Route 66, the Dodgers have played at Dodger Stadium since 1962, and Venice Beach is famous for its boardwalk.
