    Memphis sits on the banks of the Mississippi River in southwestern Tennessee. Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion is one of the most visited homes in America, and Sun Studio, where Elvis, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis made early recordings, is often called the birthplace of rock and roll. Beale Street has been a centre of the blues for over a century. The National Civil Rights Museum is built around the Lorraine Motel, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968.
