    Pattaya sits on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Thailand, roughly two hours' drive southeast of Bangkok. It grew from a quiet fishing village into a major resort from the 1960s onwards. Walking Street is famous for its neon-lit nightlife, while a short boat ride takes visitors to the clear water and beaches of Koh Larn. The Sanctuary of Truth, an enormous temple-like building covered in intricate carvings, has been under construction since 1981. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is another popular day out.
