    The Laws of Cricket have been looked after by the Marylebone Cricket Club since 1788, and its ground, Lord's in north-west London, is known as the Home of Cricket. The first Test match was played between Australia and England in Melbourne in 1877. After England lost at home in 1882, a mock obituary declared that English cricket had died, which gave rise to the Ashes. The pitch is 22 yards long, the length of an old surveyor's chain. Sachin Tendulkar remains the only player to have scored 100 international centuries, and The Hundred, launched in 2021, gives each side just 100 balls.
