    California's capital, born in the Gold Rush, is the subject of this Sacramento map art print. Its grid of streets beside two rivers is drawn as clean graphic art, a fine gift for Californians and history lovers.

    Sacramento grew rapidly after gold was found at Sutter's Mill in 1848, and it became California's capital in 1854. The city lies where the American River joins the Sacramento River. Old Sacramento preserves Gold Rush-era buildings along raised boardwalks, as well as the California State Railroad Museum. In 1860 the city was the western end of the Pony Express. The golden Tower Bridge spans the river, and the domed State Capitol is surrounded by a park full of trees. Sacramento calls itself America's farm-to-fork capital thanks to the farmland around it.
