"Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa." Film fans will get it, and everyone else gets this Welcome to Iowa sign: "Welcome to Iowa" over "The Hawkeye State" in white lettering on a green road-sign-style panel with a slim white border. The words are fixed as pictured.
The nickname is usually linked to Hawkeye, the hero of James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans, and to the Sauk leader Black Hawk; the University of Iowa's teams are the Hawkeyes. Field of Dreams was filmed on a farm near Dyersville, and the Iowa caucuses have traditionally opened the race for the White House. Des Moines is the capital. Think of someone raised among the cornfields or a baseball fan who knows that line by heart.
It looks right in a farmhouse kitchen, a garage or a games room. Clean gives a fresh finish; Rusted prints rust-effect weathering. The sign is a decorative piece, not official or reclaimed signage.
- Sizes: A6 - 10.5 x 14.8 cm, A5 - 21 x 14.8 cm, A4 - 28.3 x 19.7 cm or A3 - 42 x 30.5 cm, each in a Clean or Rusted style
Iowa lies between the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, so Illinois and Nebraska face it across the water, with Minnesota to the north. See all of our US state welcome signs.
