    The Eiffel Tower was built for the Exposition Universelle of 1889 and was meant to be temporary. The Louvre, home of the Mona Lisa, is the most visited art museum in the world, and Notre-Dame reopened in December 2024 after the fire of 2019. Much of the city's look comes from Baron Haussmann's wide boulevards of the 19th century. The 20 arrondissements spiral outwards from the centre like a snail shell, with Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur on the hill to the north.
